ACC Fire Dept. investigating fire at West Broad Street School

The Athens-Clarke County Fire Department is investigating the cause of a Monday morning fire at the West Broad Street School. Fire crews arrived on the scene shortly after receiving a call and were able to quickly contain the blaze. Most of the damage occurred inside the building. Authorities have not ruled out arson.

The West Broad Street School was included on the Historic Athens 2021 list of Places in Peril. According to the organization, it was founded nearly two hundred years ago as one of the first places of learning for local African American school children.
