The Georgia Department of Education has recognized schools in Barrow County for implementing practices designed to help create a positive and effective learning environment.

Six schools in Barrow County have been recognized as Distinguished PBIS Schools by the Georgia Department of Education. This honor is the highest level of recognition awarded to schools practicing PBIS.

PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, and it was built for educators to help teach students appropriate behavior in a school setting compared to the traditional consequences that can lead to a student’s time loss of instructions.

Auburn Elementary, County Line Elementary, Kennedy Elementary, Yargo Elementary, Bear Creek Middle, and Russell Middle were recognized for practicing PBIS that led to improved student outcomes.
