ACC Government opens call for Poet Laureate

Mikhayla Robinson-Smith is Athens-Clarke County’s second-ever poet laureate. She took that seat last year.

Athens-Clarke County is now accepting applicants for the Poet Laureate program to spread awareness of literary arts in all parts of the Athens community.

The role of the Poet Laureate is to provide access and exposure to poetry, targeting schools, seniors, youth, and more. This position is also expected to make several guest appearances in the community promoting poetry.

The chosen Poet Laureate will be expected to serve for a two-year term, and the Laureate will plan activities with the assistance of the ACC Leisure Services Arts Division. A panel with locals, educators, other art professionals, and more will evaluate the applications.

To be eligible for the Poet Laureate, applicants must be 18 years of age or older and be located in the Athens area. Applicants can’t be current employees of Athens-Clarke County. The application deadline to apply on the ACC GOV website is Friday, December 5 at 5 p.m.
