ACCPD makes downtown shooting arrest

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a downtown shooting. According to a release from the department, around 10:40 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8, a Clarke County deputy heard a gunshot near the Clarke County Courthouse and saw two individuals, a male and female, running from the area. Officers responding to the scene located a shell casing.

Video footage from area businesses and the Real Time Crime Center allowed law enforcement to locate and track the suspects to the Athens Transit Multimodal Center where they boarded a bus. Detectives identified the suspects and arrested 18-year-old Ladainian Rainwater. He is charged with several crimes including: aggravated assault, possession of a firearm in commission of certain crimes, reckless conduct, battery, and unlawful for persons employ/ associate with criminal street gang to participate in criminal activity.
