Bigger Vision of Athens, a local nonprofit homeless shelter, has decided to stop their day service on Thanksgiving Day.

Since opening in 1998, Bigger Vision of Athens has provided daily food and lodging to individuals experiencing homelessness. However, the shelter will not be providing day service, which includes lunch, on Thanksgiving Day.

Chris Garcia, the organization’s director, said that this decision was made for the staff.

Garcia stated, “We were hoping to close for our staff, because our staff has never really had the opportunity to enjoy the holidays with their family.”

The shelter will remain open, thanks to the efforts of one staff member, for overnight service. This consists of dinner, a bed, and breakfast the next morning.

Bigger Vision requests breakfast donations in the form of pre-made, pre-packed items.
