The Athens-Clarke County Animal Services is looking for animal lovers to foster animals over the Thanksgiving holiday.
ACC Animal Services is hosting a short-term foster program called “Couch Crashers” that will allow shelter animals to enjoy Thanksgiving instead of being in the shelter. The shelter is currently seeking individuals to foster pets until December 1.
Chandler Hogan, the Volunteer Coordinator, explained that even though the shelter is closed on holidays, their work isn’t done. “It helps staff out tremendously during the holiday season because even though we're closed on holidays, the animals still need to be fed and cleaned and taken care of,” Hogan said.
She said the program helps them learn more about their animals that come in as strays and how they behave in a home environment.
The shelter will provide necessary items, including food, bedding, and leashes, for those who are interested, while the temporary owner provides a welcoming environment for the pet. If people wish to participate, they can visit the ACCGOV website to sign up.
