Charles Bullock III, a professor of political science at University of Georgia, introduces the guests of the bipartisan Democracy Defense Project in Baldwin Hall on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

The Democracy Defense Project participated in a forum on campus this Tuesday.

The Democracy Defense Project, or the DDP, is a bipartisan organization composed of former elected officials and leaders from across the United States. They work to ensure the transparency and security of the nation’s electoral system.

The DDP held a public forum on the UGA campus this week. During the event, Dr. Audrey Haynes from the School of Public and International Affairs directed conversation with former Senator Saxby Chambliss, former Governor Roy Barnes, and former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin.

Issues discussed included politics in policy, cancel culture, and bipartisan divides. Franklin said that the DDP’s bipartisanship allows them to uniquely address these issues.

“By having a bipartisan approach, it gives us an opportunity to assess what is going on in the legislature and in the opportunities that people have for fair and accessible voting in the state.”

Franklin encouraged Georgians to vote in the upcoming 2026 elections.
