This Friday in downtown Athens, the boombox holiday parade will return.

Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night has returned to Athens, bringing back the interactive sound sculpture event that originated in New York.

The Unsilent Night parade is a culmination of participants simultaneously blasting music provided to them from their boomboxes, portable speakers, or their cell phones. The result is a live soundscape that transforms as people move through it.

Mark Mobley, who is the parade’s organizer, says that “Physically carrying this music together through downtown is one of the best ways to express the warmth and joy of the season, regardless of affiliation, regardless of what expectations you bring. It's just a way for people to get together and celebrate getting together…”

The event is free to all and will be held December 19th at 7:30 pm starting at Little Kings. To be a part of the parade, participants should visit unsilentnight.com and follow the instructions. Participants will get to choose one of four tracks to play during the 45 minute procession.
