Governor Kemp has appointed a new Commissioner for the Department of Revenue.

Governor Brian Kemp announced his appointment of David Burge as the incoming Commissioner of the Department of Revenue (DOR). This decision follows the confirmation of current DOR Commissioner Frank O’Connell as the state’s first Tax Court Chief Judge.

Burge is currently a partner at Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP in Atlanta. He was previously appointed to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs board in 2020, managing over $300 million in state and federal funding annually.

Burge has served on numerous community and statewide committees, as well as civic organizations, including the Georgia Real Estate Commission and the State Bar of Georgia.

Burge will take over O’Connell’s role on February 16, 2026. O’Connell will become Chief Judge on April 1, 2026.
