"Walk for Peace" monks visit Oconee, Oglethorpe counties

The Buddhist Monks taking part in the “Walk for Peace” journey were in Oconee and Oglethorpe counties on Saturday. The visit was a part of the group’s 2,300-mile trip from Texas to Washington D.C.. The purpose of the walk is to promote peace, love, and compassion. They had planned to travel through Athens and Elbert County, but they changed their route.

The monks have been greeted by large crowds during the trek. They are accompanied by Aloka the Peace Dog. Supporters of the monks have provided food donations. Community members are invited to visit during the monks’ visiting hours.

You can follow them on the “Walk for Peace” Facebook pages. You can follow Aloka as well.
