The University of Georgia has set a new record for research and development expenditure for the seventh year in a row.

During fiscal year 2025 UGA’s Research and Development department had more than a 4% increase in investments over last year's at $654 million dollars.

UGA President Jere Morehead credits this new milestone to the renowned faculty and students that have come to the university.

Several federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Defense and the National Science Foundation, increased their investments in UGA’s research, contributing to the university’s higher expenditure.

Through these investments UGA has been able to maintain its No. 1 ranking for number of products brought to market based on research in the annual survey by The Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM).

Alexzundra Tillman is a part-time reporter and producer. She is currently pursuing her masters degree in Film and Television studies at UGA and hopes to work at the cross section of these two fields in the future.
