Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is warning residents to brace themselves for the coming storm this weekend. Forecasters say Athens and north Georgia could see a potentially major ice storm with freezing rain and sleet on Saturday and Sunday.

“This is a good to start preparing for this weekend should that happen, Kemp said. “If you need batteries, food, gas in your vehicles and other things, you got plenty of time. Be winter weather aware, know that we’ll be messaging the rest of the week working with our state and federal partners on the weather forecast. As always, our state team with be pretreating and preparing for the worst and hoping for the best, but just want to remind everybody to go out, be winter weather prepared and we’ll keep you posted on how things are going.”

Governor Kemp will provide updates on the situation during a media conference on Thursday.
