A local nonprofit is holding a fundraiser this weekend.
Proceeds from the Rock the Ark Benefit concert will help The Ark prevent evictions for families in Athens and the surrounding area. The nonprofit also helps low-income working families facing utility disconnections and other financial emergencies.
Ashley Stewart is Program coordinator at the Ark.

“Right now, the people who make this town run, our working families, are facing a real housing crisis,” according to Stewart. “Rock the Ark is where our legendary music scene meets the critical mission. This concert isn’t just a night of great performances; every ticket is a lifeline. 100% of the proceeds go directly into our eviction prevention program. We’re not just putting on a show, we’re keeping families housed and away from the streets.”

The organization says the funds they provide are essential for area families struggling with a variety of financial difficulties.

“It’s so important that the community supports us because without the community we wouldn’t be able to support low-income working families here in Athens. Direct donations, fundraisers, local churches, are the only way that we are able to work for the community.”
The concert is Saturday, January 24, at 7 pm at the Georgia Theatre.

The event’s headliner is Wim Tapley and The Cannons, Karma Kat is the opening act.
