The recently elected state representative of District 121, Eric Gisler, addressed the Georgia State House for the first time Thursday.
Georgia state representative Eric Gisler called out to both sides of the aisle for a resolution protecting Georgia voters’ personal data. The recently elected Democrat of District 121 said that he is asking his fellow representatives to reaffirm that Georgia law prohibits the sharing of voter data with the Department of Justice.
Gisler’s request comes in response to the federal Department of Justice demanding that states turn over private information on registered voters. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi made this request of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz on January 24th, urging him to “bring an end to the chaos” in the state caused by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Minnesota’s Secretary of State has declined to provide the data.
Current Georgia law also requires Georgia’s Secretary of State to protect its citizens’ private voter information. Gisler’s resolution asks both Democrat and Republican representatives to uphold the law as federal pressure mounts.
