Day 11 in the trial of Colin Gray saw closing arguments from prosecutors and the defense in the final effort to plead their case before jurors. This is the first time a Georgia parent is being charged in connection with a shooting his child is accused of committing.
Prosecutor Patricia Brooks.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, that man and his son are both responsible for the immense suffering that occurred on September 4th,” according to Brooks.
“The blood is on their hands and the defendant needs to be held accountable for his actions that led to the murder of four people and numerous other injuries, both mental and physical.”
Defense attorney Jimmy Berry told jurors that isn’t the sort of precedent to set in Georgia.
“Don’t follow the DAs down this slippery slope of attempting to hold parents criminally responsible for what their children do,” Barry argued. “Do you want this to be the way the law is, this is the first case in Georgia like this.”
Gray is accused of purchasing the gun his son Colt Gray is accused of using to kill four people during a September 2024 shooting at Apalachee High School. Nine others were injured. Colin Gray faces 29 charges, including second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter.
Jurors are scheduled to begin deliberating the case on Tuesday.
