Athens-Clarke County announced that Amanda Dzimianski will be the new Poet Laureate for the 2026 – 2028 term. Dzimianski will be making her first public appearance at the Flight of the Fireflies Lantern Parade on Saturday, March 7th, at Dudley Park.
Dzimianski is an Athenian writer and the author of “Something Hungry Just Woke Up: Poems” and “Ache is a Passport: Love Letters to Survivors of Spiritual Abuse”. She is also a self-publishing coach, freelance editor, and a poetry performer.
The Poet Laureate is a two-year term position. A committee consisting of local poets, educators, librarians, and arts administrators reviewed the applicants based on their vision for the position, excellence in craftsmanship, professional achievement in the field of poetry, and other relevant criteria.
