Day one of Colin Gray trial, father of accused Apalachee High School shooting suspect, Colt Gray.

For the first time, a Georgia parent has been convicted for an alleged shooting committed by his child. Colin Gray has been found guilty of all charges. Prosecutors argued Gray should be held accountable for the actions of his son Colt Gray, who is accused of killing four people and wounding nine others during a September 2024 shooting at Apalachee High School in Barrow County. Authorities said Colin Gray purchased the rifle for his son which was used in that shooting.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, that man and his son are both responsible for the immense suffering that occurred on September 4th,” according to Prosecutor Patricia Brooks. “The blood is on their hands, and the defendant needs to be held accountable for his actions that led to the murder of four people and numerous other injuries, both mental and physical.”

Gray was convicted on multiple counts of second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, cruelty to children, and reckless conduct. Sentencing will be deferred to a later date.

This is the first time in the state of Georgia that a parent has been held accountable for the shooting his son is accused of committing.

14-year-old students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo were killed in the shooting, along with teachers 39-year-old Richard Aspinwall, and 53-year-old Cristina Irimie. Another teacher and eight other students were wounded.

16-year-old Colt Gray is still awaiting trial.
