Governor Brian Kemp has signed the amended Fiscal Year 2026 budget into law. The spending plan includes more tax relief for the state’s taxpayers and property owners.
“I am proud to sign this budget that includes $2 billion for income and property tax relief,” Kemp said. “It reflects my proposal before you to permanently reduce our income tax to 4.99%.”
Kemp said the expenditures included in the measure will not add financial burdens for future generations.
“I want to stress that while the document on that table amounts to a large sum… much of those funds are one-time spends and do not add long-term liabilities to the state that our children and grandchildren would have to pay back.”
Additional funding is slotted for the $325 million endowment for the need-based DREAMS Scholarship program, $409 million for a new mental health hospital, and around $2 billion for transportation infrastructure. The governor said the state still has strong reserves.
“...And enough money in our rainy-day fund to keep state government working for nearly three months without any additional funds.”
Taxpayers will also receive a one-time refund.
