U.S. Senators Raphael Warnock and Tim Kaine of Virginia have introduced legislation to end tariffs. The Reclaim Trade Powers Act would end the 10% tariff on most global goods. Senator Warnock discussed the impact on Georgia farmers.

“And if the president’s tariffs, taxes is what it is,” according to Warnock. “Taxes have increased the costs of everything farmers need, like fertilizer, fuel, and equipment. And it’s eroding the very slim margins that they already had left.”

Senator Kaine stated he saw similar issues in Virginia,

“Everywhere I go across Virginia, I hear about how costs are too high.” Kaine said, “I’m introducing this legislation to repeal that outdated authority and provide some relief to the American people from these cost-raising taxes.”

After taking office in January 2025, President Trump imposed tariffs on many of the United States’ trading partners. In February 2026, after the Supreme Court ruled against the administration’s tariff policy, President Trump imposed a 10% global flat tariff under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974.
