Dancing with the Athens Stars 2026 event

An Athens nonprofit is holding one of its biggest fundraising events this weekend.

Project Safe is hosting the annual Dancing with the Athens Stars fundraiser on Saturday, March 21 at the Classic Center at 7:00 pm. Proceeds support the organization’s mission of ending domestic violence. Executive Director Joan Prittie says the event is vital for the nonprofit.

“It’s hard to overstate how important Dancing with the Athens Stars is to Project Safe,” according to Prittie. “We are over $1.9 million in net revenue for domestic violence services and so we hope very much to cross the threshold to raise $2 million for our services, and that has fueled growth over the years.”

Prittie says there are four main areas where Project Safe works to combat domestic violence.

“Crisis intervention, so helping people stay alive, stay safe. Ongoing supportive services, helping people to rebuild their lives both practically and emotionally. Prevention and education in the community, and then also systems change advocacy including legislative advocacy.”
