Piedmont Athens and Piedmont Walton are partnering with Safe Kids Athens Saturday, March 21st to host a free car seat safety check. They encourage parents and caregivers to bring their car seats and vehicles for a hands on safety check. Certified technicians will ensure seats are installed correctly.

Safe Kids Athens coordinator April Dorsett says the goal is to give families peace of mind and make sure children are as safe as possible. She emphasized, “Car seats save lives, but only when they’re used correctly.”

According to the National Safety Council, every 33 seconds, a child under the age of 13 is involved in a motor vehicle crash. Proper installation significantly reduces the chance of serious harm to children during an accident.

Child safety seat usage has declined in Georgia over the past 10 years from 99% in 2016 to 80% in 2024, according to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

The safety check will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Medical Services Building Parking Lot at 242 King Ave. Athens, Ga. 30606.

For more information, email April Dorsett at april.dorsett@piedmont.org or call 706-475-5631.
