Athens area residents are among those planning to participate in the latest No Kings event this weekend.
No Kings 3 is scheduled for Saturday, March 28. Organizers say more than 3000 rallies and protests are planned across the nation. Barb Burt is co-leader of Indivisible Georgia 10, one of the grassroots groups heading the movement.
“I know people are very concerned about the idea of putting an enormous ICE facility in Social Circle,” Burt said. “And concerned about this bombing of Iran, and people are also worried about the SAVE Act, that we feel will disenfranchise a lot of voters.”
Burt says these gatherings allow community members to express their concerns.
“We really feel that our voices are not being heard and this is one way to really be able to stand up together and say we don’t like what’s going on, we want it to change.”
Events take place in multiple locations at different times. Organizers are holding a Democracy Fair at Bishop Park with a program starting at 3:30 pm. It will feature speakers, music, an art show and more.
