University System of Georgia Chancellor stepping down

University System of Georgia Chancellor Sonny Perdue

Long-time public servant and affordability advocate Sonny Perdue is stepping down from his position as chancellor.

Sonny Perdue, the University System of Georgia Chancellor, has announced that he is retiring. Perdue has served as chancellor for the last four years, and as a public servant for over 40 years.

A nationwide search for the next University System of Georgia (USG) chancellor is under way. Perdue will continue to serve in the position until his replacement is named.

Before becoming chancellor, Perdue served as the governor of Georgia for two terms from 2003 to 2011. It was under his administration that the state of Georgia posted the highest graduation rates and SAT scores in the state’s history.

In response to the news of Perdue’s retirement, Governor Brian Kemp commended Perdue on his decades of service that has kept higher education accessible and affordable for Georgians.

The state of Georgia has consistently ranked among the most affordable states for tuition and fees, ranking 5th lowest in the country.
