University of Georgia’s School of Nursing will be named after a long-time supporter.

Melvin Douglas Ivester surprised his wife, Victoria Kay Ivester, during a private ceremony, revealing that the University of Georgia School of Nursing will be named the Victoria Kay Ivester School of Nursing in her honor.

The name honors gifts from Melvin Ivester and the Ivester Foundation, which will create a $20.5 million endowment to benefit the school. The Ivesters have been longtime supporters of UGA, including giving a $5 million gift to help fund and create the M. Douglas and V. Kay Ivester Institute for Business Analytics and Insights at the Terry College of Business.

Melvin Ivester stated that his wife has long been interested in nursing and nursing education and has always been concerned with the well-being of others. Both Melvin and Victoria believe that the Victoria Kay Ivester School of Nursing will offer educational opportunities for future students to make an impact on the state’s medical community.
