Fourth Annual Hey You! Hoe Down this Saturday

The fourth annual Hey You! Hoe Down Musical Festival gets underway this weekend.
The event features multiple bands, an art auction, and a beer release to raise money for grants for local educators. Organizer Dana Siegmund has more on the event, which honors his late wife and educator Carrie Fischer Siegmund.

“The kind work that she did was so specialized and just so unique that we created this grant to promote these kinds of experiences for students in classrooms in our area since she’s not here to do it herself,” Siegmund said. “So, this is just a vehicle to continue Carrie’s professional legacy.”

Two $1,000 grants will be awarded. and grant applications are being accepted now. Siegmund says the foundation is branching out.

“We’ve been able so far, to raise over $60,000 and completely endow the first grant which was called the Carrie Fischer Siegmund Grant [Fund] for Classroom Innovation. This year, we’re beginning our second fund which called the Carrie Fischer Siegmund Memorial Fund.”

Visit the Athens Area Community Foundation website for more information.
The festival is free, but donations are welcome. It takes place on Saturday from 2pm-8pm at Athentic Brewing Company.
