A man is dead following an armed confrontation with Athens-Clarke County Police Officers. At approximately 12:43 Tuesday morning, police responded to the scene in the 1000 block of Hull Road regarding a call about a disturbance involving a man with a gun. The caller indicated that more than one gunshot had been fired.
Officers arrived to find a man displaying a firearm. According to a release from the department, the man fired at least one round, and at least one officer returned fire. The man was reported dead at the scene. No officers were injured.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating and the ACCPD Office of Professional Standards is conducting an administrative investigation. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave.
