Two injured following oxygen tank explosion at Athens facility

Two employees were injured by an explosion involving oxygen tanks at an industrial contracting facility on Commerce Boulevard on Monday morning. Athens-Clarke County Fire Department units responded to reports of an explosion and arrived to find no visible fire on site of Reinicke Athens Inc..

According to information provided on scene, employees were attempting to locate the source of an oxygen leak when an explosion occurred, injuring two workers.

Fire officials stated the exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation.

Fire personnel provided medical care to the injured workers before they were transported by National EMS to a local hospital for further treatment. The extent of their injuries was not immediately available.

No fire resulted from the explosion, and no property damage was reported.
