Georgia’s Department of Community Supervision Commissioner retiring

Department of Community Supervision Commissioner, Michael Nail, will retire October 1st.

Governor Brian Kemp has announced that Georgia's Department of Community Supervision (DCS) Commissioner, Michael Nail, will be retiring in the fall.

The Department of Community Supervision was created by Governor Nathan Deal as a part of his criminal justice reform efforts. The agency operates as a part of the executive branch of Georgia’s government and provides oversight for parolees from several departments among other things.

Commissioner Michael Nail has been the head of the DCS since its inception in 2015. In total he has dedicated 37 years of service to Georgia. Along with his 11 years at DCS, Commissioner Nail has worked at the Department of Corrections and the State Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Governor Brian Kemp announced that he will be appointing Scott Maurer to the position upon Nail’s retirement on October 1st. Maurer currently works as the DCS chief of staff and has also been with the agency since its inception.

Alexzundra Tillman is a part-time reporter and producer. She is currently pursuing her masters degree in Film and Television studies at UGA and hopes to work at the cross section of these two fields in the future.
