20 minutes from Athens, a young label is hosting a music and food event at a retrofitted church.

On August 23rd, local recording company, Piedmont Sound, will be hosting a listening event at the Portico Church.

The Portico consists of several restored farmhouses and the High Shoals Baptist Church, which has been converted into an all-purpose event space. The space also acts as a recording studio and base of operations for Piedmont Sound.

The label began in earnest a year ago. This will be their first event in the space. Josh Nathan, one of the partners of Piedmont Sound, said that they are excited to reach the independent artist community and show the space.

“We are at the beginning of fostering what we want the community to be," said Nathan, "So first and foremost, showing off the Portico and by effect fostering the community we are trying to build in relationship to the Portico and like all of what Piedmont Sound is about.”

The event on August 23rd will host American artists Gabe Lee, Tyler Key, and Cody Marlowe. Dinner is included with the ticket price.

Later this year, in November, Piedmont Sound will host a Music Festival where ticket sales will go towards Athens' own Nuci’s Space.
