The state saw record job numbers in July. According to the Georgia Department of Labor, both employment, at 5,301,774, and the labor force, at 5,480,790, hit all-time highs. The unemployment rate dropped to 3.3%, the same as one year ago. That number is 0.8 percentage points below the national rate.
“Georgians are working at the highest levels of employment and labor force participation in our state’s history,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “A record like this is not a finish line; it is a responsibility to make sure every Georgian has the opportunity to get ahead and experience the dignity of work.”
The number of jobs was up nearly 69,000 over the past year.
The sectors with the most over-the-month gains include health care and social assistance, construction, information, and durable goods manufacturing. Meanwhile, jobs were down in local government, administrative and support services, and accommodation and food services.
