Advantage Behavioral Health Systems will no longer operate the Homeless Day Service Center.
Advantage Behavioral Health Systems shared news of the end of their operation of basic-needs services in an open letter to the Athens community.
Services like showers and laundry access will be reduced in stages leading up to its end on September 25. Mail services will remain accessible until October 16.
Mayor Kelly Girtz said in a text that the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government plans to work with other providers to ensure that access to basic-needs services is not diminished in the county.
The Homeless Day Service Center is located at 240 North Ave. It has been providing basic-needs services to individuals experiencing homelessness for over a decade.
Advantage Behavioral Health Systems also operates programs including Street Outreach, Rapid Rehousing and Homelessness Eviction Prevention that are meant to serve people experiencing homelessness.
The open letter said Advantage Behavioral Health Systems plans to partner with other Athens-Clarke County organizations to ensure continued access to basic-needs services for those who need them.
