A local group is hosting a fundraising tribute in honor of Dolly Parton.
The Social Dance Preserve based in Watkinsville, is raising money for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Friday, August 28. The event will feature a dance lesson at 7 p.m., followed by music at 8 p.m.. Organizers will play music by Parton and artists she influenced. Jean Guard planned the event.
“Well, we have lost one of our American icons,” Guard said. “You know, someone who brought many people together and superseded anything that divides us and that’s Dolly Parton. She was just such a lovely lady. We tend to get together on Friday nights and I just thought it would be fitting to turn it into a celebration of her life.”
Parton, who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 80, founded the Imagination Station Literacy Program for kids in 1995.
Social Dance Preserve is located at 1052 Moreland Heights Road, in Watkinsville.
