According to the Georgia Department of Labor, Georgia’s unemployment rate was down to 3.2% in August.
The unemployment rate is the lowest it's been since February 2024. It’s also 0.9 percentage points below the national rate.
Georgia’s labor force and employment rates have reached all-time highs.
The labor force increased by almost 10,000 in August. It has risen by nearly 70,000 over the last year. Jobs increased by 8,000 over the month after declining for the last two months.
The sectors that experienced the greatest job gains in August are administrative and support services, state government and retail trade. The sectors that experienced job losses include non-durable goods manufacturing and private educational services.
Initial claims were also down by over 3,000 in August.
