The Georgia Department of Public Health has confirmed five additional measles cases in Georgia.
The cases were among siblings in a Jasper County family. The Georgia Department of Public Health said the siblings were either unvaccinated or had not completed two full doses of the MMR vaccine.
These five additional cases bring the total number of confirmed measles cases in Georgia to 21 in 2026. There were 10 confirmed cases in Georgia in 2025.
Measles symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, watery eyes and a rash of tiny red dots. The health department recommends anyone experiencing these symptoms should call their healthcare provider immediately.
According to the health department, over 95% of people who receive one dose of the MMR vaccine develop immunity to all three of the viruses. A second dose of the vaccine boosts immunity to 98%.
The Jasper County cases are not related to the outbreak out of a Cobb County daycare.
