A Georgia Power cyberattack has affected 300,000 customers.
Parent Company Southern Company says it detected “suspicious activity” and discovered that hackers were able to access limited information from hundreds of thousands of customers. The unauthorized third party used Georgia Power’s online portal to access the information. In a statement, the company said it took immediate steps to stop the activity and contacted law enforcement.
Georgia Power says it is in the process of notifying affected customers and will provide free credit monitoring. The company is investigating and has not found any evidence of ongoing unauthorized access.
In a statement, Georgia Power said they understand the trust customers place in them, and they remain committed to protecting their information.
