People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA is coming to Athens this week. The animal rights organization is challenging Athens diners to choose another option by bringing its new “Free the Chicken” truck to town. Beginning on Thursday the organization is hosting a vegan chicken giveaway near restaurants that serve chicken.

A post from the organization's website states:

“And thanks to companies like Just Food, it’s easier than ever to enjoy all the flavors and dishes you love without causing anyone to suffer.

That’s why PETA’s “Free the Chicken” truck is bringing free samples directly to communities across the country. Following the success of PETA’s wildly popular iScream truck, which has delighted crowds with vegan ice cream while encouraging people to leave mother cows’ milk off their cones, the “Free the Chicken” truck is taking the message on the road for birds.”

Athens stops on the “Meet Her and You Won’t Want to Eat Her!” tour include Thursday, October 15, starting at noon at Memorial Plaza UGA at 101 Sanford Drive, and Friday October 16, starting at 2:30 pm. The third stop will take place at Sanford Stadium, at 100 Sanford Drive on Saturday, October 17 starting at 11 am.

According to PETA, each person who goes vegan spares nearly 200 animals every year. The organization provides a free vegan starter kit for those who are interested.

The truck is traveling around the nation, with several more stops in Georgia cities.
