Boom Athens is hosting its fifth annual Boom Bash Senior Expo this week.
The event features resources, products, and services for people 50 and older, including health screenings, vaccinations, and more. Betsy Bean is the owner and publisher of Boom Athens Magazine.
“Everything from housing options, assisted living, independent living facilities, home care agencies,” according to Bean. “Also, real estate brokers, government agencies. The Veteran’s Administration will be there and we’re having the Athens-Clarke County Police sharing information about scams that target seniors.”
The ACCPD will also share information about its newly created Vulnerable Persons Registry.
Bean says vaccines for shingles, influenza, covid and more will be available in addition to a variety of health screenings.
“The UGA College of Pharmacy will be doing bone scans, they’ll be doing A1C blood tests, and just an array of simple blood pressure that type thing. Because it’s amazing people will go around with high blood pressure and just don’t know it.”
Boom Bash takes place on Friday at the Oconee County Civic Center on Hog Mountain Road, from 10 am until 2 pm.
