African Perspectives for June 20, 2021

This Father’s Day episode is note worthily laden. As we commemorate the day and celebrate all the fathers and father figures in our listening area, we embark on an abridged second ethnic journey for the year with focus on Haiti and Haitians.

The episode features excerpts from a column on Fatherhood across the African continent from the website, onlinenigeria.com. The episode also provides a conversation, courtesy of varied online sources on the history, population, culture and religion of Haiti, the first independent Latin America and Caribbean nation and the first country to abolish slavery.

It is a timely conversation coming a day after the commemoration of the Juneteenth Celebration (which marks the end of slavery in the US), to talk about Haitians, the people of the only state in history established by a successful slave revolt.

As always, the episode featured selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including selections from the selection, Kings of African Music and from the album from Youssour N’dour, Joko from Village to Town.
