Athens Resident Struck By ACCPD Vehicle

An Athens pedestrian was transported to a local hospital Friday with non-life-threatening injuries after they were hit by an Athens-Clarke County Police Department officer in his marked patrol vehicle.

The officer was traveling to work at approximately 6:35 a.m. and “began providing treatment” after striking the 54 year-old pedestrian until EMS arrived. The accident occurred at the intersection of MLK Parkway North Avenue.

The Georgia State Patrol was called to investigate the accident per ACCPD policy, and an investigation is ongoing.
