ACC School district accreditation status closer

As a result of a virtual visit last week from accrediting organization Cognia, the Clarke County School District is closer to determining the status of its educational accreditation.

This comes after Cognia’s last review in December 2020, which outlined progress on three key areas of improvement. Though that report saw improvement in a couple of those areas, organizational effectiveness remained a point of concern.

CCSD was first placed under special review in January 2020, following a complaint by then-Superintendent Demond Means made in 2019.

Cognia’s third-party review includes meetings with parents, school district leaders and CCSD Superintendent, Xerona Thomas, as well as review of board meeting records and progress summaries.

Results from this month’s review are expected for March 2022.
