African Perspectives for June 21,2020

As we celebrate all the fathers and father figures in our listening area, we take some time to address the painful reality of black men and women dying from encounters with the police. The episode features excerpts from a letter signed in 2014 by 1,800 American sociologists for justice and change after the police killing of Trevon Martin in Ferguson, Missouri. The episode rounds up with a commemorative segment in memory of Nigerian reggae legend, Majek Fashek. As always, the episode featured selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including Majek Fashek, Peter Tosh, and Marvin Gaye with the iconic tune, ‘what’s going on.’
