Artist in Residence for August: Michael Oliveri

Note: this story celebrates one of the artists in WUGA's 5 year Artist in Residence series which concluded in 2019. On August 25th WUGA will celebrate the very diverse work of conceptual artist, ideationist, and product and graphic designer Michael Oliveri, an Associate Professor at the Lamar Dodd School of Art at UGA.

He’s the founder of the school’s ArtX program, where students meld creativity with technical experimentation in a wide array of forms. He holds an M.F.A. (in New Genre studies) from UCLA and his B.F.A. from the San Francisco Art Institute, where he studied sculpture.

Notable among other interesting projects are his nano-scale landscapes that have been lauded by Scientific American and other media. Come hear about another fun and interesting science-based project: with UFOs! Michael has also designed surfboards, furniture, an easy-to-assemble bird house, and more. He’s the founder and art director of a just-launching brewery called Mocama Brewing on Amelia Island, Florida.

The event will be held at his home rain or shine — with hors d’oeuvres, lemonade and tea catered by Marti’s at Midday and wine supplied by Uncommon Gourmet. Admission is $10 for Friends of WUGA and $20 for nonmembers. Friends memberships are $30 or more annually. To make reservations and learn the address, contact Cathy Bradberry at 706-542-9842 or wuga@uga.edu.
