Convicted Felon Enters Wrong Apartment, Gets Arrested

Athens-Clarke County Police say a convicted felon was arrested after he entered the wrong apartment with a gun.

According to a media release, on August 9th, officers were called to the scene at the 100 block of Oak Hill Drive Apartments regarding an unknown and armed suspect entering an apartment. Witnesses say two other men were with the suspect, who was later identified as 30-year old Tequan Smith.

The trio fled the scene in a vehicle, Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested Smith. He was charged with Criminal Trespass, Simple Assault, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Obstruction. He also had Felony Warrants for a probation violation. The two other suspects were released.

The ACCPD is also investigating after an Athens man reported being shot at. On August 10 at around 9:18 pm, Police responded to the scene in 200 block of Garnett Ridge Drive. The victim, who was not injured, told officers two men fired at him. The victim’s truck has a bullet hole in the door and some vehicle windows were shattered. The victim said one suspect was a Hispanic male, 5’11 with a slim build and the other was a white male with no shirt.
