COVID-19 Community Response Fund Distributes Grants to Family Connection Organizations

Two area organizations are working together and donating tens of thousands of dollars to other area nonprofits assisting families during the pandemic. Sarah McKinney is President and CEO of the Athens Area Community Foundation.

“We chose, working with our COVID-19 Community Response Fund Committee, to fund Family Connections across the Northeast Georgia area,” McKinney said. “Really focused on economic stability, workforce development, those family layered, leveled responses to the pandemic.”

The money comes from the COVID-19 Community Response Fund, which is managed through a partnership with The Athens Area Community Foundation and the United Way of Northeast Georgia. Kay Keller is President and CEO at the United Way.

“What a great pleasure to be able to provide these funds for the Family Connections across Northeast Georgia and giving them the flexibility to meet the needs as they see for the people, according to Keller.”

The partnership provided $80,00 in funds to the organizations, with the Athens nonprofit receiving $18,000. FC-CIS Executive Director Tim Johnson.

“Here in Athens it will provide support for our neighborhood leaders, for getting things out to people who need them in the community,” Johnson said. “Everything from diapers to school supplies to personal needs, they will also provide training called Circle of Security.”

Nearly $500,000 has been distributed to area agencies. Visit www.athensareacf.org for more information or to donate.
