Athens-Clarke County saw its first COVID-related death in two months. Yesterday's reported death in Clarke County was the first since mid-June.
Neighboring Madison and Jackson counties also saw their first deaths in roughly a month yesterday, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.
Overall, Clarke County's COVID-19 cases are up 18.5% over the last week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Hospitalizations are also on the rise. One-fifth of all patients in Athens' region, region E, are classified as COVID-19 patients. This is a 20% increase from the day before.
Statewide, the Department of Public Health reported 4,362 cases, 180 hospitalizations, and 31 deaths in the last day.
