Cyclist Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle

An Athens man is dead after the bicycle he was riding on was struck by a car. According to the ACCPD, on September 11th, around 3:10 am, 41-year-old Michael Donnell Dowdy, Jr. and driver 32-year-old Tina Lynn Forte, were both traveling along Pittard Road from Highway 72 when the vehicle hit the bicycle. Dowdy died from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

ACCPD reminds the public to equip bicycles with a forward-facing white light and a rear-facing red light, especially for nighttime travel. 

 

This is the 18th fatal crash in Athens-Clarke County in 2021.
