Former UGA football star and Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker put an end to months of speculation from state and national political insiders today, becoming the fourth Republican candidate to challenge incumbent Democrat Raphael Warnock in the race for US Senate.
GPB's Stephen Fowler reports that while Walker has lived in Texas for years, he changed his voter registration to Georgia last week.
For months, former President Donald Trump has pushed Walker to run, as Trump continues to fixate on Georgia's politics after narrowly losing the state last November.
Walker has no previous political experience and has been open about his struggles with mental health and dissociative identity disorder, but early polls show his favorability and name ID make him a favorite in the GOP primary.
Three other Republicans are already in the race: Georgia's Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black, Navy veteran Latham Saddler and construction company owner Kelvin King.
