Georgia's Secretary of State Suing the Federal Government

Georgia’s top elections official is suing the federal government. According to a media release posted on the Secretary of State’s website, Brad Raffensperger has filed suit against the Justice Department to enforce a Freedom of Information Act Request (FOIA). He is seeking information regarding the motivation behind the DOJ’s lawsuit against Georgia’s Election Integrity Act.

Raffensperger called that measure politically motivated and his suit asks for the disclosure of any contact the federal agency may have had with prominent liberal groups in the Biden Administration’s quest to overturn Georgia’s voter reform law.

Raffensperger filed the request on August 31, 2021, 92 calendar days and 62 work days ago. FOIA guidance states the expected response time is 20 working days, or about one month.
