Athens-Clarke County’s Inclusion Officer is stepping down from her post. WUGA’s Martin Matheny has more.
Krystle Cobran was the county’s first inclusion officer, a position created by ACC lawmakers in the 2020 budget. Her interim replacement will be Selah Gardiner, a Community Education Analyst in the Inclusion Office. ACC will conduct a nationwide search to fill Cobran’s position.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion have been a major focus for the ACC Mayor and Commission in the past few years. In addition to creating Cobran’s office, Commissioners also passed a sweeping non-discrimination ordinance earlier this year, and this fall, they approved the creation of a citizen-led Human Relations Commission to help residents file complaints under the new non-discrimination law and to advise local lawmakers on issues of diversity and inclusion.
Cobran’s resignation is effective as of December 10.
