Oglethorpe County Schools Report No COVID-19 Cases

Oglethorpe County School System

As Athens-Clarke County schools remain closed to in-person learning, some area school districts are reporting positive news about the pandemic in their areas.

The Oglethorpe County School System is reporting no students or staff testing positive for COVID-19 or in quarantine because of potential contact and transmission. Barrow County’s numbers also improved with eight students testing positive or in quarantine and four staff members with positive tests and 21 quarantined. Oconee County had 10 students or employees testing positive and 56 in quarantine, and Clarke with 11 positive and 41 in quarantine. Two counties in the Athens area are still posting high numbers of students in quarantine. Madison County with 248 students and 10 employees quarantined with seven listed as testing positive, and Jackson County with 203 staff and students in quarantine and eight testing positive.

Nationally, the U.S. reached a milestone in the number of coronavirus deaths, with the country topping 200,000 deaths. That roughly equals the population of Salt Lake City, Utah, or Huntsville, Alabama. Experts believe the actual death toll is even higher since many early deaths were likely attributed to other causes.
